Theory course for dog owners (English) - mandatory canton Zurich
Officially accepted by the veterinary office - learning theory, dog behavior, health, law, training, and all other questions
For future dog owners and dog owners who already have a four-legged friend and would like to learn more about learning theory, dog behavior, health, law, training, and all other questions.
Theoretical knowledge is a basic requirement for harmonious coexistence with our four-legged friends.
Since June 1, 2025, the theory course for dog owners has been mandatory again in the canton of Zurich. All dog owners who get a dog on or after June 1, 2025, must attend a mandatory theory course in the canton of Zurich and then pass a theory exam.

Who should attend the theory course?
Dog owners and new dog owners who are required to attend a mandatory theory course in the canton of Zurich starting June 1, 2025
Dog owners and new dog owners who would like to deepen their theoretical knowledge
Future dog owners and people who are considering getting a dog in the near future
Anyone who already owns a dog and would like to expand their knowledge about dogs
Course dates and location
Our theory courses take place regularly, either online or on site in the Zurich Albisgütli area. You can choose if you'd rather join on site or online.

The next theory courses take place on the following dates on site in the Zurich Albisgüetli area:

Tuesday 2 December 2025 at 6pm
Thursday 18 December 2025 at 6pm

Theory exam dates
The next theory course exams take place on the following dates on site in Zurich Albisgüetli, right after the theory course:

Course costs
Our theory course lasts approx. 2 - 2.5 hours and costs CHF 130.- including the theory exam.
